Newborn Screening for Bubble Babies broadcast on BBC One at 7pm, December 13th 2017
Life is hanging in the balance for babies with genetic diseases that go undiagnosed. The One Show reports on the stories of different families affected by the immune disorder SCID, nicknamed “bubble baby disease,” as they campaign for this rare condition to be added to the UK National Screening programme. This would mean every new-born would be tested for SCID at birth enabling those with a positive diagnosis to receive life-saving treatment. In a moving story of triumph and tragedy we see the agonising battles families face when bubble babies are not screened versus the miraculous outcomes if they are.
